Dr Carey Viala is an experienced Clinical Psychologist offering individual psychological therapy for adults. She provides a warm, thoughtful, and professional space in which clients can explore difficulties, learn new skills, and work toward meaningful change.

Dr Viala has extensive experience across mental health and physical health settings, including rehabilitation and trauma-focused work. She supports individuals presenting with a wide range of concerns, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, burnout, adjustment to illness or injury, relationship difficulties, and long-standing unhelpful emotional and behavioural patterns.

Her clinical practice is integrative and personalised. Drawing on a broad range of evidence-based therapies (EMDR, ACT, CBT, DBT, IFS), Dr Viala tailors therapy to each individual’s needs, goals, and life context. She also has a strong interest in relational and attachment-informed approaches, recognising the central role of relationships in psychological wellbeing.

Therapy with Dr Viala is collaborative and flexible, with an emphasis on developing insight, emotional safety, and practical strategies that support sustainable change. She works alongside clients to create a therapy journey that feels both supportive and purposeful.

Appointments are available face-to-face and via secure remote (online) sessions, allowing flexibility and accessibility to suit individual preferences and circumstances.

Summer Burnout Retreat: Resting, Healing, Resetting.


Our five day residential retreat, based at Ashwood Lodge in the heart of Upper Teesdale, runs from Monday 20th July to Friday 24th July this year. This is a fully guided and catered experience designed to give you the time and space to learn about your burn-out. You will benefit from daily clinical psychological intervention with Dr Viala, including a 1:1 virtual session prior to and after the Retreat, as well as having the opportunity to process and integrate your healing in nature-based, therapeutic activities. The activities on offer are entirely optional and you can opt in and out as you wish.

The clincial frameworks we will operate in include CBT, ACT, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Stress Physiology, Burnout Research (Maslach) and Behavioral Activation. You will leave with a new understanding of yourself and with the tools to support your future nervous system stabilisation, a reorientated meaning and self-image, and a personalised recovery plan.

Wild Wellness


Guided Walks & Exploration. Teesdale and the surrounding Dales are beautiful places to visit, but some of the most beautiful spots can be daunting and inaccessible to newcomers. We can offer a guide for the day, along with transport support for up to 8 people with luggage, to help you get the most out of your holiday. All of these days are built around your aspirations and completely tailored to the individual groups.

Bushcraft and Wild Swimming Experiences. We run morning, afternoon and full day bushcraft experiences based in Teesdale and North Yorkshire to suit you. We get a bit muddy and we usually come home smelling of woodsmoke. We build shelters, we cook our lunch like our ancestors did, and we experience a world unplugged, our only connection being to each other and the forest around us. We always take a few minutes to be silent and feel the world. If the season is right we track wild animals and forage, and might even have a dip in the river. All activities are based on the needs and aspirations of the group and participants can get as involved as they like, with no pressure.

Forest Bathing and Wild Meditation. Harnessing the power of the breath and the mind through mindfulness and breathing practices is especially restorative in the remote and idyllic hideaways of our local countryside and forests. All activities are very accessible for newcomers and will guide you to still the noise within and equip you with calming and centering tools to use in your daily life.
